Ottawa woman dies from injuries in Barbados mugging The Canadian Press March 18, 2009 at 7:08 PM EDT OTTAWA — The CEO of the Canadian Jewish Congress is making a plea to authorities in Barbados to fully investigate a crime that has led to the death of an Ottawa woman. Sixty-year-old Terry Schwarzfeld was badly beaten during a mugging on a Barbados beach on Feb. 28, suffering serious brain injuries. She died Wednesday morning at Ottawa Civic Hospital. Ms. Schwarzfeld had recently been named president of the Canadian chapter of Hadassa-WIZO, a charitable international Jewish women's organization nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2005. Canadian Jewish Congress CEO Bernie Farber says his organization is “deeply saddened by Terry's loss.” Mr. Farber says Barbadian authorities need to “bring the perpetrator to justice.” -The Globe and Mail
